Nice fish! Wish my co-angler/Dad had woken up earlier so we could have hit up American. I'm with you BB, not a big fan of the drop shot. Guess the good ol' southern jigin' method is too hard of a habit to kick. I'll give the drop shot'n a try again next weekend though after seeing this report.

Nice fish!

However looks to be over limits unless most of the fish are under 14 inches!

Love looking at that biggest fish, looks monster huge! Nice work, thanks for the details.

Smalma, do you think they kept the fish? I don't see reason to think that. Unless the fish are clearly dead or on stringers, why not assume the best instead worst?

Hey kzoo thats just where we motored out to take pics and release them because the wind kept blowing us into the docks,But this area has a nice flat that comes up 15-20' hint hint.Urbanangler you are correct and thanks for the stick-up haha Yes all my fish i have posted were released alive and swam away. And i do now have a needle for if and when i start targeting the 35-40'range as i have been finding them more and more on my finder "fizzing"was showed how by a reputable smallie fisherman so im confident they will be happy when released also

Urbanangler -
Hardly assuming the worst. My commetn was meant as a FYI.

The regulation is clear that the daily limit for SMB is 10/day with no more than 1 over 14 inches. Those fish look larger than 14 inches to my eye. Having 3 such fish in the live well at one time is a clear violation of the daily bag limit. There is little doubt that holding fish for extended periods of time when water temperatures are warm or the fish have been caught deep (even if fizzed) decreases their chance of survival.

I guess it is up to each angler's ethic to decide whenever retaining (keeping in the live well) more than the daily bag limit or putting the fish at any increased risk of a mortality is worth that "stringer picture" that has become so popular in bass fishing circles.

Am certain that if two anglers were checked with 5 SMB over 14 inches in their live wells by an enforcement officer they would at least get a stern warning and in all likelyhood a ticket. After all how does the officer whether the angler intent to release the fish later.

Well mister downer nope i am allowed to keep my fish in a livewell as long as there not dead im not tranporting im not removing my vessel from the water there not on a stringer and they will all be released i will not suffer a ticket either call the wdfw have fun sitting on hold and thanks so much for caring for the bass as i know i do to. ;-)Also explain to me your thoughts on tourney fishing if you would care to share i would appreciate your feedback.

If the comment "Having 3 such fish in the live well at one time is a clear violation of the daily bag limit." is true, then my bad, I apologize. Otherwise, it seems we have some negative assumptions being made and personal ethics being pushed on others.

Washington Lakes has always been a place, where sportsman who share a common interest, can voice their opinion. Sometimes the forum is used to educate other Washington Lakes Bretheren. I believe Smalma was simply trying to educate or even keep his bretheren out of trouble. Anyone who reads the Washington State Regulations can appreciate that. The state regulation states this: "No min. size. ONLY 1 BASS OVER 14" MAY BE RETAINED. Daily limit 10. Bass may be caught, retained, and released alive from a livewell until a daily limit is in possession." My interpetation , is that you may retain and release from the livewll UNTIL a daily limit is in possession. Once you retain a Smallie over 14", you are in possession of a daily SIZE limit. I may be wrong, but that is the way I see it. Regardless, those are some nice Hawgs, and Sparky obviously is a very good fisherman. His reports are the reason I fished Clear Lk. (first time) last weekend. I was able to manage a couple Smallies around the 3 lb. range.
