All I can say is WOW!!! What a day at Newman Lake! My wife and I hit the lake around 6a.m. The weather was slightly overcast with a little fog. The water temp was 75.6 degrees. The wind picked up off and on throughout the morning. Started off targeting crappie and perch. We picked up a few crappie in 10'-12' feet. And the two perch were in 8'-10'. And a couple small bass mixed in. So at that point it was an OK day on the lake. So we decided to head in around noon. My wife said lets fish a spot on the way back where we previously caught bass on a couple other trips. And it was only about 10 minutes later and "BANG"! I thought I had a very nice largemouth or a big carp? It wasn't long before I realized it was a Muskie! Then panic set in as to where are the gloves and camera? Even though my first Muskie was on the smaller side, 24". Man! They are strong! And do not like nets what so ever! So a quick picture and back in it went. Then not 15 minutes later my wife had a follow to the boat. So remembering the research we had done. She did not pull the bait out of the water. She let some line out and sure enough he came back and nailed it right at the boat. How cool! Hers came in a little smaller than mine at about 18"-20". She has actually hooked one before at Newman on a crappie jig but lost it at the boat. So then we thought.... Well that was a great day on the lake. A few more casts and we will head out. And not 2 or 3 casts later... "BANG"!!! AGAIN!! And now it was ON! I knew right away this was a HUGE fish considering I was using a G-Loomis drop shot rod with 10 pound line and it was bent in half trying to keep it from under the boat. Thank goodness for "Power Pro" braid and a bit of luck. The first jump it cleared the water and I glanced at my wife and there were no words necessary.... This was the one you here stories about getting away... Thankfully not today. And not to mention when we thought it was tired and it had one more run left after it cleared the water a second time right at the boat and nearly jumped in!. Can you say "Holy Crap"!! What amazing creatures those Muskies are. We have targeted them on more than one occasion at Newman and Silver Lake as well. But have not even had a follow other than the one my wife hooked on a crappie jig. So to catch three in just over an hour span is truly nothing short of remarkable. I am still pinching myself.
I grew up in Arizona and hate having to slather on suntan lotion... And I've found I stay cooler in this weather. As I sweat any breeze provides coooling. But I get that reaction alot. LOL!
