I arrived at the launch and was on the water before the sun hit the lake 5:45 AM. I started out with my favorite, F-7 Perch Scale Flatfish, about 2 feet behind a Giant Cowbell. I was running Cajun Red monofilament with a ½ ounce lead weight about 70 feet behind the boat. The water temp was probably in the upper 60’s at the surface and there wasn’t even a hint of a breeze. The water was like a mirror. Just the way I like it. I fished that way for about 45 minutes without so much as a single hit. So I looked in my tackle box trying to find something the fish most likely hadn’t seen in a long time. I chose a fluorescent pink Rooster Tail and right away I started getting some hits. I was directly across from the launch at the small rock bluff below the buzzard trees when I hooked and landed a nice 12” Cutthroat. I continued south toward the weed island and just before I got there I hooked and landed a 10” Rainbow. Then I was heading for Tree 11. That’s where most everyone still fishes but there wasn’t anyone there. So I trolled through the area and hooked and landed a nice 12” Rainbow right at the tree. Then the wind came up and I decided it was prudent not to force the issue against whitecaps with a 12’ jonboat, and I left the water with 3 fish. I probably had about 6-8 strikes in less than 3 hours. It’s going to be fried trout, hash browns and corn on the cob for dinner tonight. I was driving away at 8:45. It was a very pleasant 3 hours.
