Thought I try out Lake Leland Monday afternoon as I had the day off. Got to the lake about 3:30 or so and threw everything I could think of along the bank down from the launch with no luck. I fished right through the "best times" from my magazine without so much as a nibble, so switched sides of the lake where there was a little shade along the bank from overhangs. There I started getting some small bites on my black Zoom trick worm, but couldn't stick one. Finally got one that could get the hook in it's mouth and it turned out to be an 8" perch. As the sun headed down, I switched to a white popper, that also elicited a few bites from a couple dinks. It wasn't until high tide (around 7:30) that I got my one and only keeper. She was a 2lb 5oz beauty that sucked down my black buzzbait as it passed by a clump of lilypads. It wasn't much of a strike...it just disappeared and started swimming away. That was my last bite before I left about 9. I always like coming to Lake Leland because of the great shoreline cover, good depth contours, and speed limit that keeps the skiers away, but my trips only yield one decent fish and the rest dinks (if any others at all). I keep hoping I'll be able to put together a consistent pattern there, but it has yet to happen.
