My friend and I went to Hilton today, arriving at about 3 and leaving at 6.

It was a little too windy for my liking, but the water clarity was great. It was partly cloudy and probably 60 degrees. There are TONS of lily pads there! A float tube would work very well here.

I started off by using a weightless Zoom Baby Brush Hog (pumpkin). Wow! I hooked one that was easily 4 pounds, then it got tangled in the pads and I lost her! About 10 minutes later, in the same spot, I missed another one!

My friend used a 4" senko (junebug) and also lost a 4-5 pounder...

All in all, I lost a few bass, a popper, buzzbait (Wal-Mart luckily), and a curly tailed grub.

I will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I drive by that little lake everyday, and was wondering about it. Were you on the shore? Also, is the lower lake also considered Lake Hilton as well. And, where is the access to this lake? Sorry for the 50 questions. Funny thing is I almost bought a house on that lake (it can almost be considered a pond lol). Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the report! I may have to go spank some bass @ Hilton next weekend...

TIP:
Braided line cuts through pads like a hot knife through butter. Use a heavy drag setting and you won't lose many fish. Check your line for damage after every fish. If you see "fuzzy" spots, cut them off. It's better to give up some expensive line than lose a biggun.

I was planning on going back today! I fished from the right (lower) lake, which is also considered Hilton. That side has WAY more pads and has bass, while the other side pretty much has trout only. Take the street into Hilton Lake development and it's on your right.

Does a spinning reel do well with braided line?
