Took my Pops from up from Florida out on the boat and did some morning fishing. He is a bait fisherman kind of guy, so he used nightcrawlers under a bobber with little success. I used a chartreuse jig with maggots or bits of worms and caught a few small bass and perch. I caught all of them jigging the bottom in about 6 feet of water. I tried throwing a strike king 1/2oz weedless ratting jog tipped with a 4" watermelon colored tube with no luck. As we were leaving at about 12:00pm, a couple guys in a small boat just off the boat launch caught about a 4 lb largemouth, both were flipping 5" plastic worms TX rigged into the lillies. Good day spending some time with my Pops, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how the hell to fish the lake properly. I worked the west and east sides of the lake, all the way up to the little island in the NE corner with little success. Any tips are appreciated.

This time of year the perch are going to be about 10 to 12 feet deep. Try 1/16 oz jigs just like you used.

The Bass are often deep in the pads right now. The dudes you saw had one of the better methods. This pattern will hold up for a couple more weeks, maybe, perhaps, well I think so (LOL).

Other than that, Bazzdude was right, Elokia is a better early season lake.

It's good late in the season too- after the weeds start going away. It's open year round so when the others start closing down this one is a good reliable one to fall back on. The NE corner is a sweet spot for me. I usually throw spinners out with some success, but have tried the "spinner beetle" as of late and it works pretty well as long as I get the colors right. You can fish these like spinners or jigs and I have caught bass and trout on the same lure; adding a peice of worm to it has caught me some perch as well. If you have a small shallow water boat and can get in there, the west branch of the little spokane river is accessable from the lake and has bass, rainbows, browns and perch, just be aware of the timing as the regs are different for the river than the lake.
Good luck!
