Went out on Teal Lake last night for my first time. I've only been in WA for a few weeks and was eager to catch some fish. I hit the lake around 7 and started off by trolling a white wooly bugger on a sinktip line. I don't have flippers for my pontoon boat, and thus can't hold the rod while trolling. This led to missing a few takes...need to get some flippers! Shortly after this I hooked and landed a nice 14" rainbow that had pretty good bulk to it -- my FIRST WA fish! Trolled around a bit longer just checking everything out. More fish started rising and there were lots of midges cruising around so I switched to a red bh brassie under an indicator (about 3 feet) and caught 2 more around 10-11" and missed a few more. The site had a sign posted that it closed at 10pm so at 9:45 I headed back in. In that time there were a TON of rises! It looked like it was lightly raining...some of them were real gulpers too. Anyways, that's when I noticed some little caddis flies. They were way smaller and darker than the ones I'm used to seeing in MT but they were hatching pretty good and the fish were slurping them up. By this time it was getting fairly dark and the site was "closed" so I packed up and headed out. Overall it was a very nice evening with pretty good fishing for the first time there! I will be back for sure with some little caddis patterns!
