My dad and I have been fishing Loan Lake for years but with the problem with the toxic algae and the out of control weeds we did not fish the last 2 years. So we decide to give it a shot this year not really knowing the condition of the lake. When we put in around 5pm, it only was 10 mins before we were in to some fish. We caught and released about 12 fish in the 3 1/2 hours out, average size of trout being about 12-15inches.....we have yet to catch anything over 18inches in the 5+ years fishing Loan Lake...I know there are larger trout in here but I have yet to see any. We mainly troll flatfish with a single barbless hook. I have a question, I noticed that we were able to troll/fish a lot more of the lake then we have in the past. Years past we were kinda isolated to the middle of the lake due to the weeds growing along the edges....what was done in the past couple of years to clean up the lake, I fished in spots I have never fished last night. There was not a weed in sight last night and in those other areas we were catching a lot of fish. Was there anything done to clean the algae bloom as well? Any help would be great!
By the way this is a great lake, take care of it.

Brian

Brian,

they did a big weed kill there in the last year or so. They have been campaigning for it for quite a while. some folks from the whidbey fishin' club were involved I believe. The lake does have the threat of the toxic algae though...so be aware of ingesting water if the bloom comes back.
