My fiance' and I were on the water at 4:45 this morning. We had the lake to ourselves till about 7am. And only about 5-7 boats fishing period. We left around 2pm when the pleasure boaters started coming. Not to mention the people with no manners when it comes to launching their boats! Here's a hint... Have your boat ready to launch when you back down the ramp! i.e. Covers off, bow strap disconnected, etc. Geesh! No common courtesy out there! And pleasure boaters wonder why fisherman don't like them! Sorry... Had to vent. Started out fishing top water for bass with only a few small ones caught on a Zarra Spook. Switched to Rapala shallow swim baits and spinner baits with no luck. The water temp was 65.5 at time of launch. It warmed up nicely to 70.5 by noon-1pm. The water was murky with about a 3ft. sight depth. After a poor bass hunt we switched to crappie. Went to the pads of course. The pads near the public boat launch were pretty bad with nats once the temperature heated up a bit. Had pretty good luck with white power bait grubs on 1/64th oz. jig head. We caught a few more small bass, a few small perch and best of all.... about 15-20 crappie. We brought home 12 in the 12"+ range for dinner. I think the bass and crappie will only improve over the next few weeks if the weather holds?
