OK, this place is nuts. I got off work last night while working on the Log Boom and decided to try for dinner. I cast in with sherbet power bait and had my first fish within 30 seconds. I bait up again and cast, this time it did not even hit the bottom.

Both fish were between 16 and 18 inches. I kept one, tasted great; gave one to a co-worker, may have to fight to keep fish from him next time.

This left me fish less for the return trip home today. So, around noon, I hit the water again. OK, so this time it took almost 5 minutes per fish. These two fish are in the freezer for Sundays meal, if I can keep my wife away from them long enough. (LOL)

In the last three days I have showed people how to rig up, and every single color of power bait, power eggs, and even mellows with worm, has worked just as fast. The fishing was just as good for people at Brant's Landing.

In short, there are more 16" fish here then in a hatchery. Still, there are rumors going around with the locals. They have heard that the net pens are almost bankrupt, and that they cannot afford the feed anymore. If the pens close down, then the triploid heaven we have enjoyed ad Rufus Woods will end.

Save Rufus woods! I have never fished there yet but my friends and i are planing a trip. Lets get organized and keep this fishery going. Between you and me and every one that loves this place and i know there is a truck load i know it is possible. strength in numbers and such. Thanks for your report! It is very important that we stand up and not just let this go down. There are many things that we can do together to take care of the woods. They closed the skate rink down and half of my friends got all messed up on drugs. This fishery is more important than people realize. Take the fishing away and they will slowly see that town covered with spray paint and kids with nothing better to do than be losers. Please keep us posted. I live in Seattle so i am not aware of the situation down there. I can tell you this , the fish that i have seen come out of that place are much more plentiful and way bigger than any lake around here. Its a special place. Captain fish head of the master-baiter

Save it? Yeah, save it FROM these genetic freak fish. The Walleye need to eat too.

Sounds like the triploids are becoming a more popular fishery than the walleyes are there, I would think that with the money that the indians are making selling permits and the obvious popularity something will be done to continue this fishery, at least i hope so.

don't despair about the fishery closing down...there are two different companies that own the net pens and there is talk that a company with enough capital for feed and needed repairs to make things work out there. they can't just close things up, there is around 200 million dollars worth of product in just two of the net pen areas so they won't just up and quit raising fish like that when there is that much inventory there.

but then, lets not help things get worse out there....I have seen one guy run right over the feeder tubes with his boat while the motor was on. every little sag in the feeder line will tend to be a spot that collects oils from the feed thus jamming up the tubing and...more labor to free it up. I also see many people tie boats to the pens themselves, that is too hard on the pens and is how they have been torn in the past....those are the people that may ruin things for the rest of us out there.

One just has to use common sense and be courteous when fishing around the pens!
