Took my kid out this morning to Clear Lake. I had heard and witnessed some nice German Browns come out of that Lake. Wasn't in the cards for us this morning. Fished from 7AM to 1PM and never got a bite. Tried trolling with flashers and wedding rings, and bottom fishing with worms, come, and marshmellow. No luck! Bought a new pole and reel yesterday and had it break into two piece while trolling. I wish I can say it was a fish, however, I think I got hung up in a shallow area. Will be sure to have the drag open next trip! I was also using 8 lb test trilene. May be too heavy a string for this type of fishing...Not sure!

Folks at Dan's Landing charged me 20 bucks for a row boat. I thought that was a bit steep. They apparently charge by the hour. Hopefully, will have better luck next time!

don't loose heart. I caught a bunch trolling a J-7 Rapala. Give it a shot. Clear can be a fickle piece of water....

Sorry to hear about the rod, I have seen that all too often. Make sure you check to see what line the rod is rated for, than never use stronger line (even though I do). Always check your drag before, during, and after your fishing. I broke off a monster just a couple of weeks ago because I forgot to check my drag after I changed spools to a spare line - forgot my own rule.

As for Clear, the secret is to change depth, and presentations, often. That lake can be super one hour and seem like a dead sea the next. Good luck.
