This report is for Saturday the 10th as well as Saturday the 17th. We went out in the afternoon on the 10th. The fishing was fairly slow, but still easily the best day of the year so far. Dad caught a nice 3lb smallmouth. And I managed to catch 3 smallmouths - the largest weighing 3.9lbs and 1 largemouth that weighed in at 5.1lbs! What a pig! He fought like I stole his lunch money! CATCH AND RELEASE, ONLY! Saturday the 17th I went out around 4:30pm and fished until dark. Much more active (caught 19 smallmouth), but nothing of any real size. The biggest went 2.3lbs. Still, a great day on the lake!
With all this warm weather the fishing is really starting to pick up - but, unfortunately, so are the 'pleasure' boaters who seem to have absolutely no regard for the other boats on the lake. I have a relatively small car-topper boat and they'll come flying by me with-in 20 yards and the wake nearly knocks me out of the boat every time. I've learned to deal with their ignorant boating - but what I'm having a tough time accepting is the ultra loud and VERY inconsiderate music they blast for the entire lake to hear. IF I WANTED TO LISTEN TO MUSIC I WOULD BRING A STEREO!!! It destroys the serene beauty and QUIET respite that a lake is SUPPOSED to offer. No doubt these are the same people who pollute the lake with their litter. Apparently, the very BASIC knowledge that taking care of your environment ensures enjoyment for the future has completely escaped these idiots. (can you tell that I'm irritated?? lol!) ANYWAY, to those of you who DO actually care about the health and vitality of Long Lake and the area, please remember to pack out what you pack in - and, if the mood so strikes you, take an extra trash bag with you when you go and help clean up some of the litter on and around the lake.... it only takes a second and the results last for a VERY LONG TIME! (for instance; it takes monofilament fishing line between 500 and 600 years to decompose in the environment and those styrofoam worm containers take 900 years to decompose!!!!!!!!! Plus, those styrofoam containers look edible to both fish and birds and their stomach acids can't break-down the material, leaving them with blockage in their digestive system that will ultimately cause starvation. Whenever possible, buy the worm containers that are made with that really light and brittle plastic - it decomposes much faster AND it can be recycled!!!) Okay, I'm done ranting! Fish-on!!!!
I was there also, we did not have nearly the luck you had, can you tell me where abouts on the lake you fished, and what you used. I had the kids out bass fishing my son got a few but his friend could not get one at all - CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY - BRING UP THE KIDS TO BE BASS FISHERMEN!
Nate, I agree with you about the "Sound Equipment Junkies". There are water skiers that show up on Liberty Lake with surround sound 20 db's above the pain level. If the wind is right you can hear them from the other end of the lake. And then there are the fisermen who always take the fish and often leave the litter. They don't think to clearly either. They could actually take some satisfaction in releasing their fish and taking home their trash.
