My Father and Wife and I went out to this lake for the first time and we figured we'd try to hook into the big trips they planted here. We started at about 11am, so it was a very late start, but putting our money toward the usual noon feed we thought we'd give it a shot. I started with a 3" brook trout rapala with a bit of rainbow powerbait at the end and led with an 1/8th ounce split shot up 18". My wife started with a set up we call "ol' trusty rusty" it's the same as my set up but with variations of rusty orange. It's also a 3" rapala. I have only been able to find this rapala at Sportsman's. At every lake, this set-up proves to be trusty. Hence, the name. Only on a rare occasion do I not find quite a few trout with this set-up. This happens to be one.
I rigged up the father with a red beaded wedding ring (it was partly cloudy so I used a chrome blade) and of course followed with a nightcrawler and a trailer hook in the tail end of it. We all ended up switching our split-shots for 1/4 ounce splits to get deeper. Being that the stock was fresh we thought they'd be at the top but ended up being deeper because of the cold. We had to troll a little swift for my likings due to the wind but stayed as slow as we could. We only pulled up 2 on "ol' trusty rusty" (which i had switched to also) and they weren't big at all 9-12 inches. *note - for bigger trout remove the rainbow powerbait from "trusty rusty" and give it time. Dad lost 3 on the wedding ring. I think the trailer was too far up and needed to be moved more to the end of the tail. I think it would have produced the most. There were a couple older gents there and they were the only other guys I saw that had any on and they said they had landed a coupe.

All in all it was a nice just being out there but I won't be returning. I'm sure there are quite a few good sized fish her but it was way too urban for me. There wasn't hardly a stretch of natural coast and it was literally on the highway. Also, it was very fishy water and a lot of boats and wake. Additionally, with all the houses around it's, no doubt, dirty water (other than the fishy smell). With all the lake choices around our area I will be trying somewhere else.
