Swung by a local fly shop in Issaquah and talked to a nice guy and picked up a few flies for the trip up to RS. Got to the lake and managed to C&R about 20 fish myself all in the 9-11" range and my brother, who tagged along with me, caught about 15 -- all C&R'd. I used full sinking line (6.5ips) and my bro used IST at (1.75ips). Fish were caught on thin mints, olive carey specials, and our largest fish (15") and one trip (around 17") that spit the fly were all caught on hares ears and lightening bugs in sizes from 14 to 18. Go small at RS -- they like em small. The fish pictured was caught on a GB lightening bug size 16. Great fishing today. We lost the trip cause our tippet was only 3lbs, but C&R'd this 15" holdover and that was sweet. Hawks, eagles, even loons on the water, and we even saw Toadster out there -- he left earlier than we did - the bite comes on around 6pm. Definitely 5 stars. Talked to one gent that said he had C&R'd about 30 fish and lost one nice triploid as well...which made good sense. We ended up sharing info and that was nice. "A-grade" fishing out of this little gem of a lake. Tight lines fellas & C&R these gorgeous beauts. -- KTK

Nice job out there bro!! Thanks for the tips! Good to hear it picked up a bit when I left. I figured it would but I have a test I need to study for.

Hope to see you out again real soon.

BigBrown69: You call a 15" trout "bait?" I'd like to see a picture of something you call a fish...get some pictures up here of your large fish you're catching...lol...tight lines, KTK

I posted one from Pine last week remember....you said "nice fish" Go to forums under freshwater fishing, fishing pics if you want to see more big fish. Plus I'm just giving you a hard time. Whats most important is your having fun. I just don't take pics of average fish. But thats just me. I think its great that you c&r all your fish and that you post regularly. Tight Lines

Didn't see you out there on Pine today -- missed ya man. FM was having a rough day, we gave him a fly but it was still slow for him. My buddy hooked up at least 20 fish on an olive leech size 10. I caught about 10, but I was using a thin mint instead. Oh well, maybe next time. All small today 9-12"

Quick question:
I am headed to rattlesnake lake in two weekends. Based on comments I have read are there bait restrictions on this lake? I checked the fishing guide and didnt find anything there. Also we are looking at bringing a canoe, however if there are a ton of motor boats then we will fish from shore. Advice?

No motorboats and in fishing guide you will see it states selective gear rules. Which means, unscented artificial flies or lures with one single point barbless hook only !! Bait is prohibited and fish may be released until daily limit is retained. Also, only knotless nets may be used. Have fun, there are some nice sized triploids in there too. Tight lines

I echo the comments of BB69. Remember no knotted nets. This is something I see too often now up there...no biggie, just remember that. Also, the park will close promptly, but they make a last warning call before they lock you in. NO MOTORS -- only electric allowed.

btw - to ever who dumped their old battery in the lake by the launch in 3' of water...that's called illegal dumping and is in violation of an RCW and pretty hefty fine, so I'd think twice before doing that again.

RS is pinched barbs, single hook, no more than 3 flies if you go with dropper...absolutely ZERO/NO BAIT or scented lures...scented lures are NOT allowed either. It's pretty stiff, but there are larger fish in here and they come to life around 6pm.

Thanks for the heads up guys, its good to see people still caring about lakes and trying to take care of them. I saw the selective gear requirement but couldnt find out exactly what the definition was. Thanks again, see you in a couple of weeks!

I had heard 2 guys got busted by an officer at Rattlesnake using bait this week. I'm telling you the powerbaiters better be very wary here and stay away...you will be called in if I ever see it...

It's also very good to bring along a trash bag and pick up stuff that is lying around like old shoes, old batteries, leaders/hook, powerbait jars, worm containers, etc. Cleaning up after others is a must wherever ya go! KTK
