We arrived around 8:30am, rented a boat and drifted the shoreline all the way down to the far end of the lake without a single hit or chase back to the boat. Not even a single juvie smallmouth, which seem to chase everything. Wish we would have slept in today, the bite didn't start until around 1pm. I think we just got there too early and had to wait for temps to warm up a bit because by the time we got to the far end of the lake (12:30-1:00) we had great success with green-bodied foxtails on a fairly fast retrieve. Tried yellows and blues and green was it today. We'd row back up even with the point that juts out and would drift back in toward the shore, all the while fish jumping around us. We hooked 8 kok's (only landed 4 unfortunately), 1 crappie and several small mouth hardly worth mentioning. It was a looooong row back, and after that my back was really feeling standing over the sink cleaning fish! But what a beautiful day to have been on the water so worth every ounce !
of sweat. FYI... I naively assumed that boat rentals included a small outboard motor. They don't. I didn't take my own boat because my trailer is out of commission, but could have easily brought my own outboard with me and covered a lot more ground today.. I hope to get back before this lake closes at the end of the month, it's so nice to be on such a quiet lake, minus the big boats and jet skis.
