Friday Fishing. Another "Therapy" Day. We were at it before the
sun came up. The water was very calm---mirror-like, if you will.
An occasional fish would leap above the water to snag a flying meal.
We went straight out from the boat launch and caught our first fish,
a 16" RAINBOW, within 100 yards of the boat launch. As it was so
quiet, the only sounds were of a distant coyote yapping away and
the osprey hitting the water (sounding like hitting the water with a
broom).
The water temperature was WARM; my neighbor and I elected to go
silent and DEEP with our wedding rings to reach the cooler water.
Don't get me wrong; this lake is much, much clearer than Fishtrap was.
We fished at about 9 - 10 color depth and caught our limits (again),
mostly cutthroat. We used different sized hooks: I used a #8 single, while my neighbor used a #6 treble. Our secret topping
put the whammy on the fish at Badger Lake! We were surprised we
did not even get a nibble in the lake locations we previously had
much success, but we also found bonanzas in other areas. The NE part
of the lake was quiet this day, even under the cliffs that birds nest in (we call it Barnacle Cliffs due to the appearance of the mud
nests patched into the vertical basalt columns facing the lake).
Another fine day fishing at one of the best lakes in the area. The
entire fishing experience (including taking the day off to fish) lifts the spirit...
