We packed up the family and headed for Central Ferry for our first camping trip of the year. We got there late Friday so I didn't get to fish until Saturday. I was hoping for crappies but after fishing my normal hot spot hard with only one nibble I switched to bass. In 7 hours of fishing I landed 12 with most being about 1 lb and only 3 dinks and yes I did keep some. I usually practice catch and release but with no luck with the crappies I needed some fresh fish for the tacos so 7 became dinner for 5. I kept trying for the crappie off and on but never got more than a nibble once in a great while. Sunday morning my wife caught a Smallie on her second cast which turned out to be our only fish (released) since we had to pack up camp and head home after only an hour of fishing. This was the slowest fishing I've had here in May. I guess I would have to blame the cool spring! Well that and the dozens of carp that I'm blaming for muddying up the bay! By the way, all of the bass were caught dragging tubes on the bottom which was probably not the best choice given the lousy water clarity. We will be back when it is warmer!
