In spite of a slow start summit lake produced for my wife and I on opening day. We started about 6 a.m. trolling wedding ring with crawler and maggots and pop gear with a worm trailer. While this produced nice fish last opener it was a bust this year. Most trollers got skunked (according to biologists and wildlife enforcement we talked to.) We decided it was too cold for these fish to be chasing anything and switched to maggots with a yellow power egg and an orange trout nugget on the barb, fished about2 to 3 ft. above bottom on sliding egg sinkers. Limited in an hour and a half, largest fish was 2.5, 2nd was 1.5, rest of fish were between 10 and 14 inches, most nice pink meat. Enforcement said that it was the only limitsthey saw all morn. and also were the largest fish they had seen. Biologist was very infomative, larger fish was planted from eel creek hatchery, 300 went into summit, with a slow start most are still there!

Don't forget about the nice cutthroat you caught. Your correct that most anglers struggled on the opener but recent reports and observations are that fishing is picking up. Also, kokanee fishing has been good. Good luck.
