Good Fishing at Quincy Lake!

My best friend Russell Johnston, his girlfriend Lisa and I all went to Quincy Lake on Saturday for some trout. We launched at 11 AM and in three hours we had three limits of rainbow trout. The majority of the fish were 10-inch planters, but we also got some carryovers from 12 to 14 inches.

Most of the fish were caught trolling. We used Mack's Lure Company's Hot Wings trolling rig (two mylar blades in various colors) in lieu of pop gear and tied on wedding ring spinners with nightcrawlers on the ends of them. Very effective! Most of the fish were caught near the surface.

I caught four fish tossing a Mack's Lure Promise Keeper spinner from shore during a stretch break, including the biggest fish of the day. I was surprised to find in this cold water that a moderate to rapid retrieve was the ticket in getting strikes with this spinner.

The next day (Sunday) my wife, Michelle got to go out with Russell and Lisa while I watched the kids on shore. The three of them limited, though it took them four hours instead of three. All of the fish were caught trolling in the same way they were the day before. Lisa caught the big fish of the weekend - a nice 15-inch Rainbow.

Beautiful weather. High 50's on Saturday with a slight breeze and Mid-60's on Sunday with no breeze. The nicest March weekend I can remember - at least while fishing!
