Let's see..... 3 hail storms, 7 - 15mph wind direction changes and still 4 triploid trout.....yep, must be fishing in Washington!! Good grief. Water temps were at 50 degrees all day...I wish the air temp was too!! Water is still pretty stained.

Caught four trips today, all over 1.5lbs, all on my little rapala casting towards the shore and sloooowly reeling it back in. They slam it! Even if they miss the first time, just keep casting back in the same place, even twitch it a bit, and they will come back at it. All my fish came from less than 6ft of water.

Here is a pic of the rapala. It floats, has purple on top with black spots, yellow sides, and an orange belly...I tried other lures, but they would hit bottom because of how slow you need to retrieve them, a floating lure lets you even stop reeling....one of my fish hit when I was messing with my reel and the lure was just floating there! Also, I think the brightness of it helps in the stained water?

At least if you go you'll be guaranteed better weather than what I had!!

I did also try bass fishing to no avail, it was just to windy and cold and the bass aren't quite ready to chase a lure yet. Add to that the guy in the old Bass Tracker that is there every-single-day it seems smacking every-single-log with the same jig, and the bass can get tight lipped....my advice, throw something other than a jig! duh! I passed this guy one day and started fishing the same water he just went through and caught a 5+ lb bass on a shaky head worm, then a 4lb'er on a Texas-rigged power worm two logs later! This is a fairly small lake and the fish repeatedly see the same lures over and over anyways, you gotta play around with techniques and eventually you'll hook em! I keep a pair of binoculars on my boat and if I see a lot of guys bass fishing I will watch to see what they are throwing, and come right in behind them with something totally different and still catch fish! That's what I love about bass fishing, there is no shortage of techniques that will work on a given day!! Maybe I should get that guy a book on techniques for Christmas or something?? so sad :(

Or, if the lake is getting pounded, just hop on over to nearby Big lake, and have a go there!!

Hey fishtimidator what is up with the personal attacks on someone you don't even know? You may think you are the next Bassmasters Classic champ but please keep your post to your own wonderful techniques. You should be happy that someone is doing something different than you; your chances should be that much better. I happen to know this person you are talking about and we both do quite well in the spring with a brown jig maybe you should try it sometime, or are you to busy looking at everyone with your binoculars? I know we both caught our first Clear Lake fish this year on March 9th, using a brown jig! I see you finally caught one a month or so later good job! I think people should go out and fish earlier in the year. Did you ever stop and think that maybe he picks up the brown jig when he sees you, so he doesn't give away the technique that has been working all day? Also remember this is springtime the fish will be moving up to feed and then back out to deeper water until the spawn. I see no great accomplishment in catching a fish right after someone left an area or spot this time of year. We do it all the time. We just don't feel the need to hop on a website and tear apart someone we don't know just to stroke our ego. I hope the next he sees you on the lake you don't make him wait until Christmas for his new Techniques Book! I would like to read it after him, as most avid Bass fisherman we can never read enough about techniques.

Tight lines,

Ohhhh now now, no sense getting our feelers all in a bunch:) I didn't consider it a personal attack as much as a factual observation... You are absolutely right in that I could have left out the "book for Christmas" crack, my apologies for that, but I figured what better way to see if someone reads the site reports...looks like it worked:) No, I don't consider myself any better bass fisherman than the next guy, nor do I ever think that I cannot learn something from everyone I meet on the water or visa-versa. I was merely pointing out a couple of things I have definately noticed about the pattern. If I was going to a new lake to fish for the first time, I would love some info on what the "locals" were pounding the bass with daily, so I could switch up and try something different, that's all I was doing, which is kinda the idea for this sight I thought? no harm intended! Sorry I didn't see you on Clear Lake catching your first bass of the season on March 9th of this year, I was too busy on Big Lake doing the exact same thing on the exact same day...I did LOVE reading the report you posted on your trip however, thank you both for contributing all your own "wonderful techniques":)

So, sorry again for the wise crack, I have never met that fisherman, or you, and absolutely did not mean that to sound like the proverbial "personal attack"! As I said, when I post a report I try to get as much info in it as possible! I also try to think of the guy that maybe has never fished the lake and may want to try? Almost every publication I read talks about "local patterns" and or how to overcome highly pressured fish, it tends to be great info! Heck, that's where I got the binoculars idea!! However, perhaps I should not have "singled out" a specific fisherman, and just reported the "abundant use of jigs on wood cover" on this lake?? I'll do better next time, I promise:)

I definately look forward to reading all of your future reports on Clear Lake in Skagit County, tight lines to you and your friend as well!!
