My son and I arrived at Roses Lake at about 9 am and started trolling with our inflatable raft right away. The day was bright and sunny with just a few wispy clouds, and the temperature was warm but not too warm. The lake was smooth and clear, and there was really no wind at all, unlike what I've heard about this lake from other fishermen.

Since it was our first time here, we trolled worms on 3 feet of leader...a very simple but very effective method, with the intent of finding the best fishing spot. We were NOT to be disappointed!!!

We picked up 4 fish real quick just offshore on the south side of the lake, but had to take a break from fishing in order to fix a leak (that's life with a raft!). We ate lunch after plugging the hole and tried fishing for catfish and spiny rays in the middle of the lake for a couple of hours. I picked up a perch doing that, but then my son caught his limit of trout, so we just decided to call it a day after I caught my limit, which didn't take long at all.

The trout ranged from 9 - 14 inches long (mostly 12 - 14 inches), and were all very fat and healthy fish that fought extra hard, making our light poles earn their keep. The perch was a female with a stomach-load of eggs (must be breeding season for perch), but I kept her anyway because perch do NOT have a problem reproducing!

A great lake, especially since it's open all year round. We plan on going back a few more times this year, and hopefully we can catch some catfish before we limit out on trout.
