Lookin for some way to get out in the sun Sat, so we headed out to get the sled off her anchor. Made our way out to some not particularly special spots to see if the crappie bite has started. Nope. So off we went, trolling around some structure just past Suncrest. Picked up some squallys (go figure), and B latched onto a good fight. Couple minutes of reeling later and there is a nice meaty 14.5" smallie on the end of the line, a little on the chubby side for a spring fish. Too many sqaw hookups, so we changed tactics.

Headed WAAAY upriver past the whitewater to a big rock ledge underwater (6 ft deep on top, 25 below). Tossed some wormage down there, and hooked up with a pig suckerfish. Always a good fight, but not much of a food fish. We always try to keep a squaw or two in the boat for bird food, so we slit the belly and hung a piece of that in the hole to see what happened. I planned on seeing a BIG sucker hit it, but I was wrong. After a substantial fight, B brings a 22" german brown to the net! I would have never expected a GB to hit a piece of bellymeat from a squawfish, but the proof is in the photo.

Water level is slowly rising, about 6" a day. We will see what happens during the upcoming cold snap. Hopefully it doesn't drop, but just levels off at the worst.

Cool, how was the water clearity. Was there a lot of floating hazards on the (logs, branches, ect) lake. I noticed Dragoon and the Litle Spokane was getting muddy yesterday and this morning muddier and quite abit higher.

yeah, I checked out the launch at spokane house on thursday and it wasn't launchable unless you had had a canoe, and even then once you get into the middle you might need a kayak,

Hey congrats on the Brownie!! I think the reason you got him on the squaw meat is because that Brownie looks hungry!! Almost sickly..see yah

Water clarity was good until this morning, very chocolaty after the creek runoff started. Its still pretty clear coming out of the little spo though.

The brown we caught looked like a young pike (they call em "hammer handles" in the midwest) that was all head and little body. I think he was tired and hungry, not a particularly strong fish, and definitely a skinny bugger. I figured they all had bit porker bellies on them, but I am obviously wrong.

Plan on being able to launch sometime around may 1 on Long, and if it is sooner I will do an update.

Crappie fishing sucks right now. Gotta wait for a little more warmth before they move up on the beds.....
