Launch from the southern boat launch and decided to head to the area just off the tip of the large island. Once away from the shoreline noticed an significant amount of floating grass coupled with a heavy algae bloom. On my last trip 2 weeks ago I had some success using a sinking flyline with a Black Woolly Bugger, so if it worked once, what the heck. As I made my way across the lake to the tip, I found myself constantly snagging up in this grass field. When I changed tactics and began casting to the shoreline, the retrieving the fly was encased in grass. After 45 minutes of this, I decided to troll to the northern end of the island and while trolling there the only action was a grass cleaning exercise.
At the northern end of the island the grass field wasn't nearly as bad, however grass cleaning seemed to be the exercise of the day.
I managed to catch 2 fish (19 & 18 inchers).
Talked with another fisherman who had launched about noon and he had caught 1 fish and lost one.
There was 6 other boats who launch with me but all these had left the lake by 11 AM.
If I had known these conditions existed, I wouldn't have made the trip to the lake at this time, so here's a heads up if you decide to go.
