Took my 8 y.o. son out on Rufus for some triploid fishing, then we were going to try for walleye. It was a nice sunny morning although a little chilly. We launched at Seaton Grove and motored on down to the net pen area. My son fished a chartreuse whistler jig with a 3 inch pumpkin seed Kalin grub, and I had on a metallic green jig head with the same grub. We drifted down the east side of Nespelum Bar in 25 feet of water just jigging off the bottom. It was kinda slow but we ended catching 10 fish between 12 and 21 inches. We kept the 21 incher and 2 15 inch fish. The rest were released unharmed. We didn't even take them out of the water.
After a couple of hours of that we headed back up river to the island (can't remember the name) to try for walleye. We hadn't fished for 10 minutes when the wind all of a sudden started blowing. Not wanting to get caught out on the river in nasty conditions with my son in the boat, we beat it back to the launch. As soon as we got back it started raining. And it rained almost all the way back to Marysville, except for when it was snowing!!
The water temp was 41.3. We can't wait to go back.
