As promised, we were back at it this weekend -- still trying to learn this fishery!

Decided to run down to the cedar river/sound mercer area (never been down there, it was fun exploring). Had set our first rod in the water (leaded line + needlefish) and before we could get our 2nd line in the water we had a fish. And a nice one! I handed off to my dad who was along for the day, and he brought in this very nice buck-- 3lbs 1oz AFTER we'd cleaned him! By far the biggest trout I'd caught in Lk Washington.

Unfortunately that fast start didn't keep us on the fish, we stayed in the area for another 2 hours and had no more takes. Then we motored back up north, picked up my 4 year old, and took her for a troll around the points, focusing on ~40 foot water, with a variety of setups, probably another 90 minutes with 3 rods and touched nothing.

Still the one nice fish made for a pleasant day on the water.

Dude chill out. I've bonked exactly one resident trout on the lake in 7 years living here. The trout population in the lake is vibrant, pick another hobby if this bums you out.

Beautiful fish Irish! And good job letting your dad fight him. I fished the same area from 4 to 6 pm friday afternoon with no takers on my pop gear and wedding ring. I think that I'll take a hint from you and try a more natural presentation next time. God bless, kokenny

koryrasmussen55: As I said in the report, between the S tip of MI and the Cedar River is the location. The setup was leaded line, 4 colors out, with a long flourocarbon leader to a needlefish. I'd guess-timate that I was 20' down.

to irishrogue, on 3/7/08 you decided to"learn this fishery", on 3/10/08 you figured out that the cutthroat biomass was "vibrant" that is some 72 hours, c&r.

To excodex: You have too much time on your hands to be commenting on this report/thread. Go get out there and fish and stop complaining about people keeping fish. It's rude, and out-of-line for you to come on here and preach your C&R. People need to keep their fish in this lake, he only kept 1 dude. Lay off him. If you choose to C&R, great, but irishrogue is a great angler and member alike, who, like many, have learned this fishery from guys like myself and others. Keep your mouth shut when you have nothing positive to say. You got that?

From the Seattle PI:

Cutthroats are the most widely distributed native trout in western North America, with both resident and sea-run varieties. "Cutthroat fishing is one of the few fisheries I hear from the old-timers is as good now as in the old days,"Kraemer says. "I've caught 20 without moving my feet."

The fishery is more than healthy here on LW. Way to go Irish!

Excodex. Okay, this THE LAST time I will discuss this with you. Sharpen your pencil:

1. Read this: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/getaways/112097/wash20.html
2. Then read this: http://www.seattle.gov/util/stellent/groups/public/@spu/@ssw/documents/webcontent/spu01_002703.pdf (which is generally depressing about the salmon habitat degredation of the lake, I happen to work on coho incubators on small tribs, what are YOU doing about that???)
3. Which references this MASTERS THESIS done in 2000 on our beloved Lake Washington citing evidence that the cutt population is in fact so much more numerous NOW than HISTORICALLY that it is in fact part of the reason for the decline in salmon smolt survival.

Now go crawl back under the bridge you live under. Troll.
