I fished Fazon Lake today at around 7 am. Stayed till about noon. It was an overcast day with a few sprinkles. Not much action to speak of. Lot's a heron, ducks and geese at this lake.
As far as lures go, I used mostly a 1/4oz thomas lure, gold. With no luck. Trolled a wedding ring, green with worm. No luck. Also used a red/white spoon. But not for very long. I fished the shores from my float tube and then I trolled with the wedding ring. I also bottom fished with a herring for no luck.
The day was event-less as far as bites or fish go. But it was very enjoyable and I will be back soon enough with a new plan. The scenery was beautiful and there was very little development around the lake. I saw about four deer in the parking lot right when I arrived.
The lake is very shallow. At it's deepest point of about 20 feet. The lake is fed from groundwater and rainfall. There are no streams or rivers that run into it. At least that I could find and I searched pretty hard. Although a man-made drainage channel (300 ft. long) is located mid-lake on the eastern shore. This is supposedly private. I didn't go down it although I was tempted in my small float tube. Surface water exits the lake through the northeast shore.
This lake also has very low oxygen levels. That is why I focused on fishing near the shore. In a survey done in 1997, it was found that at Fazon Lake depths of more than 15ft. were found to be lethal for warmwater fish due to low DO(dissolved oxygen) levels. Although there was a proposed plan to put an aerator in the lake and I don't know if this was done.
Another thing about the lake that may or may not be true. I had a hole in my waiters in my right foot. When I was done fishing I noticed that my foot was very swollen and had small bumps on it. A possible allergic reaction maybe? Or just a really cold foot. Who knows. But be careful out there.
