The state does not own the boat launch; otherwise they would maintain it (which they never have). The water is owned by the state. ALL property surrounding the lake is private, including the launch (when Mr. Henley started the resort around 1950 (there used to be a picture in the concession stand), the road ended at the corner, and it was all grass around the water). Where the county road ends (at the corner by the brown house) is where the "public" land ends. That's also why the county stops at the corner when they mow the sides of the road). Because the launch is privately owned, that is why we get charged to launch a boat, and why the resort has always had us sign that paper when launching (I believe it's a liability waiver). I have been around the family and resort for MANY years, which is why I know this information. Anyway, the family sold the resort - Henley's no longer owns it. Whoever owns it now is dumping a LOT of money into improvements and rumor has it that they are selling "memberships" as they have converted the old house into a clubhouse. Last I heard, the resort will open this April for the 2008 season.
