We camped at Buffalo hoping to lose some of the Memorial Day crowd. It kinda worked, still not the same as wilderness. But the report...
We put our float tubes in and stared out usual way, pulling Buggers around. We picked up a couple Brookies this way, but not a lot. We switched to mayfly nymphs (hare's ear, pheasant tail, etc.) We used no indicator, floating line, and chucked 'em up next to any weeds or structure near the shore (docks, submerged trees, etc.) and varied the retrieve. That worked well! I picked up 2 nice ones within a half hour. Too bad I didn't figure this out 'till the end of the day.
Locals all complained that fishing had been slow. Mike, at Reynolds resort, voiced the same. The warm weather Saturday didn't speed them up much. back in September to go at it again, after they get even bigger (we took one that was at least 16", a nice Brookie).
