Had a nice, but unproductive day @ Chapman. Tried all the same techniques, fished all the similar areas that we fished in neighboring Badger Lake the 2 weeks prior to the regular season closing. The kokes are spawning, however, so they were a little preoccupied. The bass & 'bows? Sleeping off a Halloween party hangover like I should have been, I guess.

We still had a great day -- it was warm in the sun and really chilly in the shade, but a really nice crisp fall day to be on the water. We had the entire lake to ourselves and enjoyed the view, fall colors, even a bald eagle over a few cigars and beers.

I think I'll hang it up for the now until the ice fishing season starts, unless I get an itch I have to scratch at a year-round lake like Newman or something.

Anybody know if the old resort there is under new management? For the first time in years there was a new face in the trailer collecting the launch fee. Really nice younger guy (younger than previous guy, I should say). Southern accent. Was very helpful about pointing out what and where to try, while also being very honest about the lack of success lately.

Regardless, it was a very nice day on one of my favorite lakes. If your season is winding down like mine, hope you had a great one!

I had heard somewhere that the previous owner had died. The last time that I saw him was about 7 years ago and he was well up in the years then.

On another note- Did you ever get the engine problem figured out with you boat?

Yeah, that other guy was paralyzed or something. Friendly guy would always just take your ramp fee while laying down on a sleeping bag in a side room. SOrry to hear he passed away.

As for the boat problems, I never did get it fixed myself, but did narrow it down to the upper fuel pump. At idle or during gradual acceleration the engine runs fine, but on a hard acceleration is when it cuts out. That, they tell me, is a sign that the upper pump is bad since that's when it's engaged. Will have it fixed when I have it winterized. And speaking of winterized, I gotta get her in soon. There's even a chance of flurries tonight!

Thanks for asking!

Can't confirm of his passing. It was just hear say and you know how that can be inaccurate at time. I do know that he was quite elderly.

I talked to the new younger guy earlier this year and he told me the older guy
never owned the place and that he went home. He told me the owners decided
to run the property now. Thats whay I was told.

I also talked to the younger guy the last weekend of October. He told me that "there needed to be some changes" and his wife's family owns the resort, so he decided to move up here and run it. I hope the old timer is still alive. He was always a really nice guy. The younger guy is a decent guy himself. Hopefully the county won't let developers take over around the lake--that would definitely ruin it.

I couldn't agree more. One of the reasons I really like this lake is the no-wake policy, which keeps the big boaters away. I hope that also keeps the development away too. I'm thinking the guy who wants to build a big lake place is also going to want to build a dock for all of his noisy jet-skis, etc. and that is not an option @ Chapman.

Have you seen the realtor signs and development around Badger Lake, just "next door"?

I can't remember the name (Bruce maybe) of the fellow that ran the bait house from a sleeping bag, but I heard he's been moved to a nursing home. Still alive I think. I have several friends that had summer places at the lake. Two of them are credited with building all the new docks. When the new owners took over, my friends were all asked to leave. I really like that lake, but I don't plan on returning based on what happened to my friends. I hope I change my mind later.
