My love and affection for fishing started when my mom took me and some friends fishing on the Potomac River for my tenth birthday party. I am now 49 and am pleased to report that I caught the largest trout of my 39 year fishing career today. I was fishing with Mike Quick, my fishing buddy for 25 years. We started at Rocky Ford where Mike caught 5 rainbows to 16 inches. We went to Lenore around noon and fished the South end. Mike caught the first one that was about 3-4 pounds. I caught his twin a few minutes later. We were trolling flies, Mike with his tried and true creation "Whiskey River," and me with a Joes Hopper on a wet line. Both were size 8. Mike has always commented that my favorite wet fly is a very famous dry fly. Please don't tell the trout that! The next fish I caught was only twenty inches but weighed six pounds, and was the fattest trout I have ever caught. It looked like a big fat Florida Largemouth. But wait friends, there is more. My next fish was 27 inches long and weighed eight pounds! On a fly rod. The cutthroats continued slapping the steel for several hours ranging from three to five pounds. I don't mind telling you that Mike and I have fished all over the USA and Canada and have caught thousands of trout, and hundreds at Lake Lenore, but after this day we once again became "The Legends of Lake Lenore." At least in our own minds anyway .
