Well I haven't posted a report on Greenlake for awhile, but that doesn't mean I haven't been putting my time in. two hours here, 4 hours there etc. etc. Made some friends while I have been there as well so that is a bonus! Tonight I FINALLY got my Carp! Forgot how much fun those guys are - especially on my ultra light! I was fishing with my new friend Boris from Muldovia(sp?) on the west side of the lake just north of the bathrooms/boathouse. About 6:30pm I noticed a bunch of carp surfacing right next to the doc, so we went down and I put my line in from shore about 10' out from the end of the dock - 30 minutes later fish on! I thought Boris was going to jump out of his shoes! I was wet (pouring down rain) and I was cold, but man what fun it was! I gave the fish to Boris, he said he likes them better than trout - tried for another one until 8 and headed home. Oh - and I was using bread on the bottom. Sorry for the lousy pic - nighttime, pouring rain, and my black raincoat made a bad combination!
Pescador, you funny man. Did you dance that jig you were talking about in the other post? LOL. About a couple of years ago I went fishing from that "T" dock right across from the island on the North side. I was fishing with my sons, they were pretty young so I figured I would put a bobber and worm out for them and let them have at it. My oldest was holding his pole and not paying attention to the huge fish coming toward his worm, I thought it was a carp. I watched with amazement how the fish took the worm, as I started to grab my son's pole because I was sure this thing would pull him in the water, the fish sliced through the line like a hot kife on warm butter. I couldn't believe it! I was racking my brain forever, I blamed myself thinking maybe I didn't tie a good knot. But after seeing all the muskie posts on this site, I finally realized that's what sliced through my son's leader. A freakin MUSKIE. I had never seen a muskie until I got to this site, and I remember when they planted them in greenlake to eat carp. So there's my tall fish tale for Greenlake, I hope you enjoy, and someday haul in a muskie for me and I'll dance with ya!
The dance - yeah! I believe Boris thinks I am a little off my rocker! Too bad it sliced the line, that would have been your kids shark tale for sure if had actually been able to hook it! I have seen em, but never caught a Muskie before - sounds like another personal challenge! Guess I will have to start studying the Muskie forum a little closer. I have heard more than one account of catfish being caught is the double digit weight class too. The great thing about Greenlake is that it is so close.
Hey fellas, When was the last sighting of the Tigers? Just curious. WDFW stated that they electro shocked the lake a while back and no signs of the skie's...remember too that if you do catch one...36 inch limit and please..catch ,photo and release..they are there to try and get rid of the over abundant carp and tench..Thanks
mhunter - the last data I could find online came from the Friends of Greenlake website - it was 2004 data (http://www.friendsofgreenlake.org/fish.html) and if there info is correct (miskie life span 5-8 years), then there very well could be some still there. I emailed them asking if they have any more recent data - will keep you posted.
