Hit Clear Lake at about 9:30am. Wife and I were fishing for bass, and began throwing topwater baits over the large fields of lilly pads, with no takers. We switched to plastic worms in various colors, also to no avail..... I tried jigs as well, but finally found a couple takers on a spinnerbait, in a golden shiner pattern with a double Oklahoma blade set up.
The WDFW sprayed the pads in this lake back in June, and now their stems are covered with a thick green slime, making for pretty difficult fishing. Also, I feel it has pushed the bass in this lake into deeper water, and if I had the entire day to commit to it, I would have moved out and experimented with Carolina rigs, fished slowly in 10 to 20 feet of water.
This lake can be incredible, the weather was awesome, and I would honestly have trouble rating ANY fishing trip less than a 3.......after all........YOU'RE FISHING:)
