It was August 14, 2007. I woke up early and headed out to Devereaux Lake to look for largemouth bass. Was supposed to meet a fishing buddy at the lake at 7:00 AM but he didn't show up. I launched my small electrically powered boat onto the mirror smooth surface of the lake. Devereaux is a no combustion engine lake. When I have such calm water, I can't resist tossing a floating Rapala. I had only been casting the Rapala for about 5 minutes when a large swirl appeared under the lure. I slammed the trebles and was hooked up with a very strong 17 1/2 inch, 3 pound, 4 ounce bass. Not really very big but very strong. I was glad I was using Power Pro braided line in the 15 pound test. It was difficult keeping the fish from diving into a mess of submerged logs but I was finally able to get her to the boat to check her weight and length. Beautiful fish but it was the only strike I had during 3 hours of fishing. Was only boat on the water until a lake shore resident showed up to fish for trout.
