Father and Son Fishing Outing 08-10-2007

Lake Washington, WA Fishing Report

I had the opportunity to take my son fishing last Friday evening and I was really hoping to get him into his first bass.

For one who is not quite three, I am amazed at his attention span when it comes to fishing. It is about 45 minutes where he really tries to catch a fish. His sister’s is only about 10 minutes.

I always let him pick his lure and in our short little stint, he chose one of Joe S’ flat tailed worm and two different Senkos. I was glad that he was having a blast both standing and kicking back in his little chair. Every time he got snagged, he’d start laughing. Being that he is two, I don’t teach him anything more than casting and let him be because that is how he prefers it at this stage.

I was batting 0 for 5 by the time the sun went down. With my son now finding more interest with the pistol hook remover, a sign he’s done, and the smell of a skunk on the horizon, I made one last pitch. I felt the nibble and waited this time. I knew it was a dink but better that than going home empty handed. I reeled up the slack and brought the smallie up, took a photo, and let it go.

We nearly went home skunked but we managed to hook into a small smallmouth. I suppose a dink is better than nothing. With that said, 1 for 6 is terrible!!

I love the look on his face. Either he is concentrating, waiting for the take, or wondering when he gets to go to McDonalds.
