I went to Tanwax lake this morning and it was AWSOME. I love this lake and have been going there every chance imaginable for the past 7 years. I have caught anywhere from minnows to a 24" bass with a sunfish. But my story is all about crappie. You read all the posts here and there about 'yay! great crappie day, caught 8'. Well, we did that too within the first 2 minutes. Went to the lake around 3 and caught perch and a trout here and there, but then we noticed that a guy was catching a few crappie under the dock, and he had just left with 30 (lol limits 10). We thought we would give it a shot and between 6:00 and 6:55 we had 3 full buckets of crappie totaling at 152 for the day. It was amazing; best day of my life and I assure you that I will be coming back for years to come. (sizes were between 8" to 13") (lol didn't keep any, gave a few away :) )

Tips: Well here are a few that I have picked up;
--Green jigs work the best
-- Fish UNDER the large dock for 10 min here and there and keep trying throughout the day until the bite starts.
--Morning 5:00am to 10:00am best time
-- Worms with 'tails' off hook also work when jigged
BE PATIENT; YOULL KNOW WHEN THEY REALLY START TO BITE

hope this helped any..........TB

P.S. any doubts..trust me I'm not lying i have pics on my phone to prove it!!!!!

Tanwax has a 10 crappie limit with a minimum length of 9 inches. Sounds like you were way over limits with some undersized fish.

So, um, if I am reading this right - the limit is 10, but you "had three full buckets of crappie totaling 152 for the day" and you didn't keep any of them. I would love to hear that you returned them all to the lake unharmed - but the whole "three full buckets" thing makes me seriously doubt that. This reminded me of a similar report back in May, turns out it was for the same lake, you don't know Jake do you?

maybe he assumes 152 crappie fills about 3 buckets? ill give him the benefit of the doubt right now.

I'd like to see the phone picture, although that could be incriminating. I, too, gave this report the benefit of the doubt - a lot of doubt I might add.

Sorry you all think that way, o well i can see your point. I will reconsider next time; but you have to admit it was a hell of a day. yes all the crappie were released except for a few that we gave away. Sorry again.
ps: None floated to the top of the water or bucket
pss: We really didnt think of limits due to the moment and the fact that everyone else on the dock was catching just as many!!! Dosnt make it right but i hope you can see my point.....LATER...........tb

I'm posting this for Tyler because I want to save the report form for actual fishing reports. Please use the "Comments" box for these types of comments, not the report forms. Thanks, Mike

HEY JAKE ITS TYLER...OK LETS CLEAR UP A FEW THINGS. SO YOU HAVE ALL READ MY CRAPPIE REPORT FROM TANWAX LAKE. YES I DO KNOW JAKE AND I WENT WITH HIM THAT DAY. I MAY HAVE EXAGERATED ON THE AMOUNT. JAKE WAS RIGHT AT 110ish. (we started counting after they started really hitting). WE WERE TWO FRIENDS JUST WANTING TO HAVE FUN. ALL THE CRAPPIE, YES ALL OF THEM WERE RELEASED SAFELY..NONE FLOATED TO THE TOP, YET WE GAVE A FEW TO SOME PEOPLE WHO JUST ARRIVED ON THEIR BOAT AND CAUGHT NOTHING ALL DAY. WE ARE NOT THE KILLERS YOU TAKE US TO BE. WE DONT KEEP THE FISH, IF ANYTHING WE GIVE THEM AWAY. I WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW THAT I RESPECT YOUR COMMENTS, BUT PLEASE NOTE THAT IF WE HAD ONLY CAUGT OUR LIMIT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN THERE 30SEC. SOUNDS SELFISH, RIGHT? WELL WHEN YOUR AN ADDICT (FISHING) LIKE ME YOU CANT JUST 'LEAVE' SORRY I HAVE TO GO PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK I CANT EXPLAIN IT ALL NOW SO JUST LEAVE A MESSAGE AND ILL GET TO YOU...tb.......CYA JAKE.

Am baffled asto why more haven't been insensed that this guy is not only breaking the law but trashing the fishery for others. ALL studies show that hooked fish have a significant mortality.... some are immediate (as in floaters) others succumb to bacterial infections at the wound sight or die from the stress of being kept in stagnant water for extended periods. There is a reason the state places the limit on THE FIRST TEN FISH CAUGHT...not the ten you decide to keep. It is a mortality issue.

We repeatedly see postings for this sort of unsportsman-like behavior at this lake. Maybe the game department needs to read this posting and watch the acions of these scaflaws that ruin things for others. I know there are loads of fish at the docks and allabout stunting.... but this is not cool in any sense of the term. His friends supporting him demonstrate that they too condone this BS. If you see this moron doing this in the future (ie: those that say they saw this happen.... and the dock is never empty) it wouldn't hurt to grab your cell phone and call 1-800-477-6224 to report him.

I know this website doesn't aher info with the department of game but they should decline to post illegal activities. It is an embarassment to the fishing community to watch this site post things like this. Maybe someone should post a picture of some bull trout in a skillet or maybe catching bass with goldfish. These are also lots of fun and okay if you are "caught up in the moment'..... guess that would make it okay to shoot the heard of deer in my yard just to keep the buck.

Shameful!!!!!!

Yikes guys.... use some common sense ...read the rule book.....and then follow them.. REGARDLESS OF THE MOMENT....
We used to be able to catch nice large crappie over at Potholes....and now look what has happened....because of selfish people taking much more than the limit...and taking home fish that are much too small. Just please try to be sensible...
