Our long anticipated yearly boat/camping trip. James and I arrived Sunday evening, just enough time to find a quiet cove and anchor up for the night and watch our DVD. Great evening sunset!
The morning came and I eased us out into the main part of the lake. James was still asleep (6am) so I began casting plugs and jigs to fallen timber and rocky areas. It was quite of tough because I have no electric trolling motor on my seaswirl. After an hour or so of no action I decided to run down to the far end of the lake and explore. I got about 2/3rds of the way and my depth finder lit up with markings at 40-60 ft depth. So I decided to try troll for silvers and trout. Well, not more than 5 minutes into trolling and my motor sputtered and smoked and died. Pretty obvious the water pump went out. So that leaves just my too-fast main motor to troll with. BTW, I would like to thank the angler that tossed me a bottle of his own blue-dyed corn, thanks! He even offered a sea anchor for me to use. We returned to the campgrounds and bought a couple pails which did the trick. Spent the rest of the day either fishing or swimming or napping. Pretty lazy... caught one silver. Only had a few bites. Word from the campground staff was similar for other anglers. Anyway, came home this morning to a ton of stuff to do plus a whole lot of reports to approve! A nice mini-vacation with my son, even if the fishing was dead.
