Hello, First time Bass fisherman went to Eloika Yesterday. Put in about 5 pm fished till after 9pm... Had heard good things but was pretty disappointed for my first bass trip.
Mostly weeds at the end of my line, though my friend and I did manage to catch a few small bass 6-8 inches and a couple tiny perch. Did land one very big crappie.
We used crank baits, spoons, spinners, rapalas , floating frogs.... Any suggestions to make my second bass trip better?
Perhaps another local lake that's good for beginners or some bait suggestions.

Give Chapman a try. In the evening, directly across from the resort, the bass will cruise the submerged logs and stumps along the shore. A few years back, I got a good sized large mouth in the dark using a popper fly.
I have heard that Newman is good also in the evening.

Chapman, Newman, Rock, Long, Coffee Pot, all good choices for Bass fishing. Actually Eloika is the best of the bunch, but it is a March through Mid June fishery for Bass, then it picks up again in late summer (if you can fight off the weeds).

Next time, fish Eloika with a Moss Boss, or a Rat, or a weedless spoon. Cast on top of the Water Shield "pads" and pull it off. Let it settle as it reaches the edge, and hang on.

try the western side strait across from Jerry's landing....use a top water frog or a popper...get almost on top of the weed edge and cast north and south with your top water...its not the action you need to draw the fish in Ive notice if you pop or hop it a few times really hard and really fast then let it sit for up to a minute the fish go crazy...neways give it a try....also lizards...rubber black body w/white tail or try a blue speckle full body rigged Texas of Carolina
