Day 1 - the first day for us was mainly run & gun. we tried all over the steamboat rock area, the punchbowl, and barker flats. we had minimal success with only a couple over 12". we were discouraged to say the least.
Day 2 - started fishing the shore a little south of barker flats (started at the cave) by 5:30. we got a ton of fish on tubes and other plastics but again they were all dinks. then we went up around some small islands and caught some more dinks. by this time it was time for dinner and we were still pretty flustered, we were even discussing going to the potholes or Roosevelt for the last day. little did we know that our luck was about to change... we went straight back out to the barker flats and started casting rat-l-traps and cranks. we were fishing a flat in about 8'-10' of water and they were just crushing anything that moved. most of em were around 12" with a few around 15", and my last fish of the night was big fish for the trip, a fat 18"er. i also caught 2 small walleye during the feeding frenzy which was pretty cool.
Day 3 - only fished the morning from about 5:00-8:30. went straight back to where we were getting em the night before and started whacking em again. there seemed to be some bigger fish this morning, with probably 3 or 4 around 16"-17". my dad and i each got another little walleye, both at 15.5" . the last hour was really slow, just picking one up here and there.
all fish were released.
