This was my first attempt to fish merrill lake, true to the reports that I had read on the internet the fishing did not start until 9:00 pm when the sun was completely gone. Caught my only fish at 9:00 pm a 12 rainbow. This was on a dry version of the "big yellow may fly" the hex hatch. did not fish as long as I would have liked because I had to drive home south of Portland. There must have been 40 people fly fishing from waders to float tubes , pontoon boats and drift boats no internal combustion engines so electric trolling motors where a good set up for those who had them.
notes on the camp ground. its tents only and looks to be 7 or 8 spots. apparently they go fast. it would be nice to acquire a camp spot so you could fish late and not have to drive home after fishing late.
back to the lake most of the action appeared to be on the east shore line "boat ramp side" I don't know if any big fish where caught but it was a neat place with all the fly fishermen.
