What happened to this lake??? I remember a few years ago, about 5 or 6 to be more precise, when you could go out on the lake almost any day from late April until September and see trophy-sized rainbows sipping insects from the surface. It was not uncommon to catch between 5 and 10 of these beauties in the 17 - 22 inch range on a single day of fishing! All you had to do was toss an olive or black Wooly Bugger behind you and troll let it sink down about 10 or 15 seconds. Then strip.......strip.....strip and FISH ON! TODAY if I catch even ONE fish over 14 inches I consider it to be a pretty good day!! It really irritates me that Fish and Wildlife doesn't shut this lake down to FLY FISHING ONLY, CATCH AND RELEASE! There are PLENTY of OTHER lakes for the hardware guys to fish that are not nearly so sensitive to overfishing. ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE INTERESTED IN TRYING TO PUT SOME PRESSURE ON F&W TO SHUT THIS LAKE DOWN TO THIS TYPE OF FISHERY? Email me at flyfisherguy@hotmail.com.....

Now for the fishing report...

Arrived at Coldwater this morning about 9:00 and began working the lake towards the back, trolling my 'Old Dependable' (wooly bugger that is). Did not even have a strike until my return trip! Two hits, two fish. Both around 15 inches, beautifully colored rainbows. But I remember the good old days...

Let me know if you'd like to help get the regs changed for this lake, I could really use the additional support. I'm planning to campaign for this change next year, guess it's too late for the current year, oh well....

Tight lines!
