Went out on Sammamish the other day because I live so close and went to a few spots of mine to troll for bass. Using crankbaits that resemble the tremendous amount of baby salmon schools, I trolled at about 1.2-1.5 MPH in 15-25 feet of water and within minutes had a fish on. Lost it before I could see it but it was a big fish. Put the crankbait back in and within minutes again had another on. Was only out for 2 hours and had over 15 hits and caught 8 smallies ranging from 1 to 4 pounds. Beautiful day on the lake and cant wait to hit it again tomorrow.

Saffy,

What crank bait where you using? If you want to keep it on the DL I have a couple posts you can shoot it t me on a PM and I will be mums the word. I am new to the area and could use a few hints. My last duty station was in Oklahoma where i met this old timmer that taught me a little trick. Swap out your factory treble with a single siwash hook. He would snap off the center hook completly most of the time or put on 2 siwash hooks. Removing the center hook doesn't change the action much either. Before you swap the hook grab the hook long wise along the shank with some needle nose pliers and bend the hook outward enough to offset it a bit from lining up directly with the shank. This sets the hook either in the direct top or bottom of the fishs mouth instead of setting in the side and pulling out. I have tried this now for a couple years and it really does works. it blew my mind when I was watching ESPN this weekend. The guide on there did the exact same thing with his hooks. I just thought it was a good idea from a crazy old time fisherman but it works. I should probably post this as a forum. I have shot the idea to a couple people. i will throw it up there next week.
