I drove down to Wenas lake in pursuit of monster German Brown trout. Reports of 10-13 pound monsters had piqued my interest. Got there at 7pm and put in, fished for about 45 minutes before dark. I decided to try something that to my knowledge hadn't been used before. I brought small whole herring and ran one behind a 00 dodger, straight back from the boat. Just a sliding weight to drop it down 5-10 feet deep (I unfortunately forgot my Cannon mini-troll). The spin on the herring looked like a 10 pound brown could not pass up this meal! No luck in the evening. The next morning I got up at crack of dawn. Sad to say, I was feeling rather sickly, vertigo and extreme nausea/vomiting do not go with a moving boat. I made one pass on the west shoreline and returned to the boat launch, violently upchucking all the way. A sad end to what I had hoped would be an awesome trip. I will say this - the Canyon Drive from Ellensburg was well worth the trip. If you haven't been down this road you really must check it out some time. Oh, and maybe give yourself a shot at those 10 pound browns. BTW, Shirley from Wenas Resort told me that the lake was planted with 5,000 rainbow on 4-9.
