Got to fish from 9am to 2:30pm with DJ LaRoche of West Coast Custom Tackle and his pro staff associate, Mark Maderos. Mark was the guide for the day and we fished in his brand new 20 ft Nitro - hold on to your hats! Got to the north end of the lake in a matter of minutes and began sight fishing to smallies use drop-shots and (in my case) a tube bait. The fishing was good, but not red hot. Between the three of us we caught 9 smallmouth ranging from 1.5 to 3 pounds. I'd not fished this method before and I must say it was pretty captivating, targeting specific fish and trying to entice them to bite. I will definitely try this again. Mark and DJ are outstanding anglers and I learned quite a few new techniques from them. Watch this site for a new video from this trip (I'll start working on it shortly).
