A great day to be on the water. Fishin Buddy Bob Johansen and I hit Long lake. conditions were: 60s, moderate wind, sunny. Action was kinda slow - for the back of the boat. I managed to get one bass to come out from under some over-hanging brush and grab my tube but couldn't set the hook. Bob, on the other hand, landed three nice bass in the 3 pound range on his secret jig and as a bonus caught the biggest black crappie I have EVER SEEN. 16", 2 lbs, 4 oz. Unreal! But he owes me because as we approached the tree stump ahead of us I was fiddling with a backlash and said "go ahead, you're in good position". Of course, ever the gracious host, he saved me plenty of first water casts and I couldn't do anything with them. That's fishing!

My biggest was a 11" at Tanwax in Pierce County. Now I have something to look forward to.

Back home we call crappie that big slabs. Did you catch more in the same area and did the crappie hit the tube or a jig. I have caught many on the broke back repala the best is live minnows in this state that an unfair advantage. Some of the fishing rules need to be changed. One more is some lakes don't open until 8:00 am what the heck is that about.

That crappie hit the same 1/4 ounce jig with plastic worm trailer as the bass. Yes, it was a very nice crappie but it was only half the weight size as the Washington State record of 4 pounds, 8 ounces. The record crappie was caught in Lake Washington.
