Made a quick trip to Kress after dropping a rod off at Lamiglass in Woodland for repair. (Those people are great. They also have a fantastic selection of repaired and discontinued rods at deeply discounted prices.) Ran into a friend at Kress who showed me what is working there. Its a clear water bobber used as a slip sinker. Your line goes through the center of the bobber a swivel keeps it in place. You attach your leader to the swivel and use floating powerbait. The result is you can cast quite a way out and the bobber is just slightly non-buoyant to the point where it wont sink into the weeds. Your bait ends up floating about 2-3' above the weed bed. Using this I caught one small trout and had a lot of hits during my short stay at the lake. Other were easily limiting using this set up. You might think about adding a small worm to the powerbait as I was experiencing a number of strikes that were knocking my powerbait off the hook.

While I was there WDFW dropped off a small number of steelhead. The osprey's were also quite active. Some folks seem to be returning trout caught on bait to the lake and the ospreys are picking up these injured fish. A little education might be in order. Hopefully, it won't take ticket writing to get the point across.

Max,
My guess is they won't be putting anymore steelhead into Battle Ground Lake until winter. I believe the steelhead going into Kress are from the Cowlitz River hatchery. I should be back to LaCamas Lake later this week. Stop by and I'll show you the technique I learned at Kress. I think it might be helpful at LaCamas as well. - Pat
