Made it up to Bear Lake about 6:30PM. The weather was overcast with a few rumbles of thunder. I tried a variety of bates and discovered that going off the top using a bobber and worm seemed to work the best. I caught three rainbows, two were twelve inches and one 6 incher that swallowed the hook. My wife also caught a couple of rainbows that she was able to release.
I noticed that the fish were not hitting the bait very hard. They would swim around with it in their mouth and it would take some time before the bobber would go all the way down. There were seven other people fishing this lake the same time that we were up there. I talked to one guy that was very proud of his limit and he said that he was using multicolored powerbait and they were hitting nonstop.
Overall, the trip was good experience. We saw a young cow elk, a buck, and a doe with small fawn faithfully following closely behind. This lake can be little tricky to find, bring a map with you. I suppose that is part of the lure to fish there, less people more wildlife and hopefully less trash.
