We fished from 3 - 5:30 pm from the juanita area north to a park and then back to juanita. The fish were biting. There's alot of smolt in the water about 1" in length. The fish were all around us feeding. They were around 17" - 24" range. Since they were on the surface we noticed the boat was pushing them away from us so we let out alot of line. We caught 2 bows and lost a smaller one. The two were 2#s. We caught them near the surface down to 15'. We didn't catch any down deeper. Their bellies were full of smolt.
There was an hour of fishing when we didn't catch any fish but I realized we needed to let out more line. The boat was scarring the fish. I think planer boards would be very effective this time of year.
Within the next month there'll be 500,000 coho smolt coming through the lake. Two years ago I saw this happen and the lake was bubbling with smolt. It looked a little like rain hitting the water. We didn't catch any trout that day. I'd say their bellies were full.
