Musky Tournaments
Its gonna be a great weekend for some tournament action. Both Musky clubs and a bunch of other clubs are gonna be out there pressin them waters.
It gonna be warm this weekend folks, 90's in Spokane for the CMA 2-Fer, 85 in Republic for the Ch57 Members and 80+ here on the west side. Looks like its time to pull out the sun screen and toss a case, or 2, of bottled water on the boat.
BTW, If you need a "Contest Banner", get in contact with 3 Rivers Marine. They had 2 left when I was in there yesturday (05/27/09).
Im looking forward to the reports and pics!! Be Safe out there folks!

I think we all have been waiting for this weekend to get here. Time to shake off those winter blues and get to what we all love to do, GO FISHING!!!!!!! I have been watching the weather for the same places and as you said all looks great. I'll be up a Curlew with the Chap 57 gang and it's going to be a great event. I'm sure you guys going to the Spokane area will have a blast too.
See most of you this weekend and looking forward to those other reports as well.
THanks RaMcVey

So... How did things go at Curlew? We had a great time at Silver and Newman.
Im thinking there were 6 fish caught (4 @ Silver, 2 @ Newman) and the largest was a 37.

Did you guys get alot of east side participants? How many of you ventured over from this side? Glad to hear some fish were caught. I heard it was supposed to be pretty hot over there, how was it?

RE:Musky Tournaments
I dont know the E vs W numbers. 24 participants or so. Im guessing almost half were from the west side.
It just kissed 90 on Sat acording to the trucks digital display but the breeze helped keep the temp in check. Sunday was nice, 85ish and a ligh breeze that picked up close to noon.
Ya know how some people can tie a cherry stem into a knot with their toung? My musky did that with my soft swim bait. Tied its tail around the hook and spit it out. Right in front of my face. Laughed, and swam out 3 feet, suspended 3 feet down and just sat there looking at me.

RE:Musky Tournaments
All was great at Curlew this weekend.
We had about 25ish or so people attended and like RaMcvey stated the West outnumbered the East by a few anyway. The weather was hot but we also and a nice breeze and then some cloud cover in the later afternoon. A total of two nice fish were caught during the tourney and of course Mr. Mike Floyd took the top spot. This was my first trip to Curlew and what a great lake to visit if you want to see Tigers, notice I didn't say anything about catching. I'll bet you I saw over 50 fish swimming around and all were rather large, couldn't get one look my way though. All in all it was of course a great time had by all. Great way to start the season and I know from talking to everyone that we are all looking forward to the next Chap 57 Tourney at Mayfield on June 27 where I will pull out all the stops and finally bring home the WIN!!!
lol
Thanks

RE:Musky Tournaments
Come on Dex, you left me out high and dry. I caught 1 snub nose the day before the tourney and she was about 40". Definitely saw a ton of fish and Mr. Floyd won the tourney with a 44.5" tiger caught 22 minutes into the tourney. Good job mike on your catch it truly was a beauty. Oh yeah, Dex sorry about the flyby's, I didn't know I messed your chi up that bad that you would not catch any fish. I figured Brett had enough Chi that you guys would pull off the late win!!:cheers:Dex wrote:All was great at Curlew this weekend.

Your killing me here. I have yet to actually catch one and have only seen 1 up close and that was Sunday @ Newman.Dex wrote: This was my first trip to Curlew and what a great lake to visit if you want to see Tigers, notice I didn't say anything about catching. Rosann, here are more details from our event posted in the Fresh Water Forum.
Heading to Tapps tonight...
RE:Musky Tournaments
RaMcvey,
This is going to be hard to believe, but I'll bet you I saw around 35+ tigers in that lake. All were of very decent size both in length and girth. I have been going after tigers for 3 years now and have fished many different lakes but nothing prepared me for Curlew, what a very unique lake.
We had a great time.

RE:Musky Tournaments
Thanks for the reports guys, sounds like you all had a good time. Isn't Curlew amazing with all those tigers to see and the beautiful scenery for a background. Sorry you didn't get a lightning storm like last year, it was really cool to see and hear although I'm sure alot of people were glad you didn't get one. The lightning storms are the one thing I miss from the time Bill and I lived in Texas.

RE:Musky Tournaments
Lake Marvel. NE Texas. Best Lightening storm I have ever seen!!!!
Sitting on the patio, under the grounded metal awning, with the girlfriends dad and uncle, drinking beers and watching the lighting roll across the lake. The light show was amazing, the orah <sp?> that was left after a water strike was spectacular. Not to mention the strike itself which kinda looked like a whale blowing its stack, but more dramatic.
Um.... what were we talking about? Fish or something wasnt it...?

RE:Musky Tournaments
Curlew was fantastic and frustrating all at the same time! It is a beautiful area and an awesome lake offering a great fishing opportunity, but clearly the Muskies there are well fed and content. We probably saw 20-25 Tigers and only 2 or 3 even showed an ounce of interest. Most swam on by like we weren't even there! How ANNOYING!!!! We literally bounced a lure right in front of the nose of one of those beasts...and I swear he smiled at us as he swam away without a care in the world. Ugh!!!!
I have to take exception to one comment made by Dex. It will be I that will be taking the win at Mayfield. You've already had your excitement for the year--or at least for a little while. Stop being stingy and step aside! LOL (I hope you know I'm kidding--to an extent anyway--I still plan on taking the victory.) It's time for us ladies to take the podium!!
Fruitful Fishing.

RE:Musky Tournaments
Well while you're up there looking at the nice tigers we will be down here catching them in Mayfield and Tapps. The Temps are really starting to come up and the fishing will soon follow.
Just a tip,
Try covering your flash while taking a picture of the fish. It tends to reflect off the water when there a few feet below........lol

Thanks for the tip, Dex!
Now, mind telling me how to get the fish to THAT POINT???
Every lure known to man is my tackle box and I still can't get them to jump in and say "howdy"
I am going to watch you closely at Mayfield! Should be a blast, can't wait.
You comong up to the property to camp out?

Tiger Muskies are sterile.
You can't keep them under 50 inches:
Let them do their job: Eating N.P.Minnows

RE:Musky Tournaments
I was talking with a close fishing partner of mine... and a Washington State Game Warden stated to them that it is in fact a violation to move a boat into a swimming area or to even cast over the ropes.
There are plenty of spots to fish, even in a tournament, without putting swimmers... little kids, at risk.
