Update On Tiger Muskie Record Proposal
I've received an e-mail from WDFW indicating that updating the sportfishing records has been under review but is currently on hold due to limited resources and shuffling of staff. In response, I asked WDFW to eliminate the tiger muskie record altogether until a catch-and-release record can be implemented. I pointed out the fish caught last week, which couldn't be verified because of the 50-inch rule, broke the record by 6 1/2 lbs. according to the LXGXG/800 formula, and there no longer is any justification for maintaining the existing record on the department's books. My thought is no record is better than an invalid record, during the time it takes to develop an appropriate set of criteria for the state tiger muskie record. In any case, it doesn't look like this proposal will go through the rulemaking process, and is in bureautic limbo for now.
