I'm going to do a lot more bass fishing next year and I was wondering what is a good brand, type and size for a spinning reel and a bait cast reel for I have both and want to get new line for both. Thanks

What are the major applications you plan to use for those reels? Knowing this can help us provide you with better recommendations.

For example, if I plan to drop shot an area with little to no cover, it is no question that I am going to use 6# flurocarbon.

If I am going to be tossing crankbaits, I am most likely going to use 10# monofilament.

Ideally, I like to choose the line that would excel in the applications I plan to use. Fortunately today's lines can do well in multiple areas.

Would braided line be a good choice for spinning and baitcast reels?

Seems like you may have it backwards. I use spinning tackle for senkos and some tubes, and baitcast for my crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I like 6-8 lb line for drop shotting, and 10 lb for senko's around cover with spinning tackle. For baitcasting I use anything from 10lb-20, mostly co-polymer. I haven't dove into braid yet, but I will try next year.
I have had good luck with Gamma line, Trilene XL, and McCoy mean green is good stuff too.

this is by no means based off of what the pros do or anything (i dont know some might but im making no claims), but just based off my inexperience really, i keep lighter line on my spinning reels 8-12# and somewhat heavier line on my baitcast 15-20#. With this i fish heavier stuff and trolling stuff off my baitcast, and lighter stuff like plasics and smaller lures off my spinning reels.

HOF,..I agree with what has been said,..IMHO,..you do have it backwards,..personally, I use 6#-8# on my Spinning Reel for D-Shot and Power Pro Braided on ALL my Baitcasters,..I personally don't like losing my Cranks, Swims and Frogs and tend 2 fish allot of heavy cover so the PP Braided for me is a must,..but then again it depends on what the Angler is confident with,..either way you'll have fun "Bassin-It-Up" this coming season!

I have been using 15 pound Power Pro braid on my spinning reels for a few years now. I used quality mono for many years and lost several big bass when the line broke. I have none break off using PP.

LOL, I think that there are no clear cut answers, but I like what I have seen above.

First, braid is not the best thing to use with spinning reals, but I do, and I get excellent results. I am considering even trying Fire Line again, using the Crystal. This might provide a more Mono like clarity, smaller line, better feel, but no stretch option. Otherwise, most of my spinning reals use 6 to 10 pound lines, usually mono, and like others here, it is used for more open water, more finesse fishing options.

I prefer braid on my Bait Casters, but also use Mono. I try to use 10 pound and up. If I am going to be flipping into old rotten wood, an 80 pound MONO, yea, you read right, MONO, won't cut into the rotten wood as bad and I can fish the snag better. Still, I usually use 15 to about 30 pound, braid or mono, depending on how sensitive, or how thin, I want the line.

There really is no "best" line, but several lines for different conditions. Still, if I was just getting started, I'd load up my spinning real with 8 pound Gamma and my Bait Caster with 20 pound Power Pro Braid. Just my preferences, not the rule of the land.

I second and third p-line that is the shizzznit:cheers: 8# on the spinning reel 12# on the baitcaster it pulled the boat backward aginst the wind it is TOUGH STUFF
